چکیده
The weight optimization of a structure can be conducted by using fewer and downsized components, applying lighter materials in production, removing unwanted material. Topology (TO) is one the most implemented material removal processes. In addition, when it oriented towards additive manufacturing (AM), increases design flexibility. traditional approach compliance optimization, where layout optimized minimizing its overall compliance. However, TO, current state art, mainly used for inspiration not due to complexities lack accuracy solutions. authors, this research paper, explore benefits limitations TO as case study housings front rear brake caliper. calipers were reduction implementing aforementioned procedure. Their topologically optimized, partially redesigned, prepared 3D printing, validated, printed titanium selective laser melting (SLM). reduced 41.6% compared commercial calipers. Designers interested either or automotive engineering exploit findings paper.

Topology Optimization for Additive Manufacturing
This paper gives an overview of the issues and opportunities for the application of topology optimization methods for additive manufacturing (AM). The main analysis issues discussed are: how to achieve the maximum geometric resolution to allow the fine features easily manufacturable by AM to be represented in the optimization model; the manufacturing constraints to be considered, and the workfl...
متن کاملSelf-supporting Topology Optimization for Additive Manufacturing
The paper presents a topology optimization approach that designs an optimal structure, called a self-supporting structure, which is ready to be fabricated via additive manufacturing without the usage of additional support structures. Such supports in general have to be created during the fabricating process so that the primary object can be manufactured layer by layer without collapse, which is...
متن کاملSupport structure constrained topology optimization for additive manufacturing
Background: With recent advances in additive manufacturing (AM) and topology optimization (TO), there is a significant interest in integrating the two fields [1]. Although TO and AM have flourished independent of each other, there is significant interest today in integrating them for two primary reasons: (1) Designs stemming from TO are geometrically complex, and therefore hard to manufacture u...
متن کاملTo Refine or Not to Refine: Topology Optimization of Adaptively Refined Infill Structures for Additive Manufacturing
We present a novel method for optimizing structures by adaptively refining the structural details. The adaptively refined structures topologically resemble the graph composed of edges in the quadtree mesh. However, while adaptive mesh refinement is employed in numerical analysis for reducing computational complexity, in this work we interpret the edges as structural elements carrying mechanical...
